Summary: Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) is an incredibly overweight but brilliant college professor. When he falls for a beautiful coworker (Jada Pinkett Smith) he decides to take an experimental formula he was working on. Instantly, he loses his weight, but becomes love maniac Buddy Love. He begins to wrestle with his alterego, and in the end, only one can stay forever.

Review:

Tim: This movie still holds up as an amazingly funny movie. Eddie Murphy has made some horrible bombs in his day (Metro? or perhaps The Adventures of Pluto Nash?). This movie presents him at the top of his game. It is simply an entertaining, hilarious movie.

The movie works because of the amazing performance of Murphy. He plays a total of seven roles, all of them in excellent fashion. This is definitely a career highlight for him.

The Nutty Professor also contains one of the all-time funniest scenes of all time. The first dinner scene with Klump's family is disgusting, but comedic gold. Sure, the highlight involves flatulence, but it is the greatest use of fart humor I've ever seen. I laugh hysterically every time. The other great scene involves Dave Chappelle at the comedy club. His Reggie character has some hilarious jokes, but things really get entertaining when Buddy Love throws it back at him.

On the negative side, the longer the movie goes, the more boring and silly it becomes. It starts out strong and for a while continues, but then fades away in the final act.

In the end, The Nutty Professor is an excellent comedy. It is rated PG-13 for good reason, but it has a wide enough variety of humor and entertainment to appeal to movie goers of all ages.
