Review:

Tim: At first glance, Notting Hill is the type of film most guys cringe at- a romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, one that is sappy, and not based in any reality whatsoever. I myself never wanted to see this movie, but a friend forced me to watch it.

Surprisingly, I loved the film. It was incredibly funny, Roberts and Grant are perfect for each other, and Grant especially gives an outstanding performance. The supporting cast is excellent, and add a tone of lightness and humor to the film. For some reason, this film not only works, but gets past all the barriers guys put up for this kind of movie (apparently the guys-enjoying-Notting Hill is a phenomenon not linked solely to me). While I've done my best to explain why the movie is so appealing to both men and women, ultimately, I'll fail in my attempt to explain the very essence of the film that makes fans of us all. I honestly can't tell you exactly what is so great about this film, that makes it better than so many other romantic comedies.

Despite my inability to put my finger on it, (which ultimately isn't that important), the fact of the matter is, Notting Hill is a very, very good movie, that you really do need to see. I really hope you take a look at this film, and especially if you're a guy- let me know if you liked it, so I can further try and see the big picture of this phenomenon.
