Review:

Tim: I did not know what to expect with this film. I thought I had a pretty good idea about it- namely, that this was a smallish, independent, edgy film that would break the typical conventions of the more mainstream Hollywood movies. However, I as not nearly as prepared for the complete mind melt that would occur with the surprising conclusion to the film. While watching it, you will be pulled into the mystery and the craziness that surrounds the strange "nines" mystery. What exactly are the nines, and how is this connected with these three individual stories? The eventual explanation is far more impressive and enormous than you can imagine. I'd bet some people will feel disappointment at the film's eventual resolution, but I thought it was outstanding.

Ryan Reynolds gives an amazing performance (which is actually three very different performances). How he is able to play three wildly different characters in the same film is outstanding. I also was surprisingly impressive with Melissa McCarthy. She also gave three very different performances, all of which are very good. Even Hope Davis, whom I normally do not like, gave great performances. Elle Fanning, like her sister Dakota, is also a force to be reckoned with.

The Nines is a film that is original, clever, and wildly entertaining. It is occasionally mind blowing, and very memorable. I really, really enjoyed this movie and it is one that I will not soon forget.
