Review:

Tim: An absolutely stunningly beautiful film to see. The only thing that surpasses the film's beauty is the sheer boredoom that you will feel throughout the film. I've seen quite a few movies in my life, and I've been bored numerous times. But, nothing has compared to the teeth-grinding, mind-numbling boring movie that will nearly scramble your brains with its slowness. I'm not sure what Director Terrence Malick was trying to achieve with this film, but if it was forcing his viewers into a coma, he has succeeded.

Colin Farrell is John Smith. This probably seemed like a good idea, but he's completely ineffective. Sure, there could have been far worse people in the role, but Farrell's not all that great. Christian Bale is likewise ineffective as John Rolfe. Both these men are good actors, but they can't keep us from falling asleep in this snoozefest. Surprisingly, the best performance of the film comes from Q'Orianka Kilcher, playing Pocahontas (although you won't hear that name in the movie), a girl of only 15 years old when the movie came out. She is stunning throughout the movie.

Malick deserves some credit for making an incredibly accurate and realistic movie (for example, no artificial light was used). While this works as a terrific historical specimen, Malick forgot to make this movie enjoyable.

The New World is not a very good movie. The film is just boring, long, and terribly painful to watch. Avoid this snoozer at all costs.
