Review:
Tim: This film works because it takes a high concept premise, which puts the characters in awkward and hilarious situations. This is surprisingly entertaining. A great deal of credit has to go to Cary Grant for his exceptional comedy skills.
I found myself laughing quite a few times. The scene in the elevator where Grant sees his first wife is hilarious. I also love the end of the film, where Grant is making excuses to stay, which is also so very, very funny. These scenes are memorable and quite entertaining.
Grant does a very good job as the husband getting in over his head. His comedic timing is perfect and he's quite likeable. Irene Dunne is very good as well. The supporting cast are all quite strong. The cast really pushes this film.
The movie was nominated for 3 Academy Awards, but it does have its flaws. There are some slow spots, particularly in the beginning of the movie. The whole film, with all its craziness, could have been prevented if Grant's character manned up early on.
My Favorite Wife is a strong comedy with a good amount fo romance thrown in. There are some surprising twists to the film that are completely unseen and make the movie far more interesting. These keep us on our toes and keep us very interested. Grant is quite entertaining and makes us feel for him as he finds himself in an increasingly crazy situation. The film has some very good scenes that generate a good deal of laughs. This is a solid comedy.
