Summary: Mulan (Ming-Na Wen speaking, Lea Salonga singing), is a young tomboy living in ancient China. When the Huns invade China, Mulan's father is summoned into the army. Her father, a great war hero, suffered from old war wounds. To spare her father from certain death, Mulan dresses like a man and takes her father's place in the army. Her ancestors send fallible dragon Mushu (Eddie Murphy), and the lucky cricket, Cri-Kee to defeat the Hun's leader, Shan-Yu, bring honor to Mushu's family, and save all of China.

Review:

Tim: Okay, okay. I admit I had reservations in watching this movie. I thought- Disney, yeah that's okay- if you're a preteen. I am way past that stage. I thought it would be an insult to my manhood to view this film. However, I was mistaken. Mulan is an excellent film. It not only will appeal to the younger audiences it was intended for, but has enough wit and intelligence to keep adult viewers interested as well. This is a movie that you shouldn't be afraid to watch with your kids, because you will be entertained as well.

Every girl from ages 4-13 should see this movie. In a world where 99% of action movies have males in the starring roles, this is a film in which it shows that women can achieve as much as men can. This movie shows young girls that they too can be heroes, and that if they put their mind to it, they can achieve anything.

Don't be afraid to buy this movie, especially if you have kids in the house. This film will be watched over and over again- and another bonus, it doesn't have any annoying songs that will drive you crazy. In that aspect, it is not the typical disney musical. Only five songs are found throughout, the best, "Be A Man", is sung during bootcamp. In rating this film, I gave it an 8.5. This doesn't truly show how much I like this film. As far as children's cartoons go, this one deserves a 10.
