Review:
Tim: This is a pretty good action film that takes an interesting concept (husband and wife spies who must kill each other) and capitalizes on its strong foundation. Although the movie could have been better, it is entertaining enough for everyone's tastes.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are both very good in the roles. They are believable as spies and have quite a bit of chemistry together. This is so important, because the film depends on us liking these two people and loving their interaction on screen. While Pitt occasionally seems a bit corny, overall, they obviously have fun together, and that translates into fun for us. Vince Vaughn is fairly useless as he doesn't have much to do. He does have one very funny scene, but if you watched the film's trailer, then you already saw it.
The action scenes are all pretty good. The real fun comes in the form of flirtatious banter between Pitt and Jolie while they try to kill each other. While this is quite enjoyable, I think even more of this would have made the movie even better.
This film has a wide appeal- it will appeal to hardcore action fans, and also to those that would rather watch romance and relationships (as long as they're not opposed to some explosions and gunfire). Mr. and Mrs. Smith perfectly marries these two concepts together. The end result is quite enjoyable to watch.
The movie could have been stronger in a few areas. It takes a while to get the film going. There also could have been more comedy, and some of the action scenes could have been more effective.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is somewhat of a rarity- it is a sure bet. The film has such a mass appeal that you can almost guarantee everyone will find some enjoyment in it.
