Klein teams up with a local police officer (Laura Linney) as reports of the mothman increase greatly. With the sightings are strange predicitions about disasters which start coming true.
Review:
Tim: Your typical horror film blasts high-priced effects at you in order to scare you, and nine times out of ten, fail. This film doesn't show you very much- you won't see a special effects Mothman flying around, yet the film manages to scare the hell out of you. It leaves much to the imagination, and as a result, succeeds immensely.
The Mothman Prophecies is a smart, spooky film that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is based on actual events, which makes it all the more scary. This film gives you just enough to spark your imagination, then lets that run wild.
Richard Gere is good in this film. He's by no means excellent, but is believable and gets the job done. Most of the time he's perplexed and quite afraid, which is understandable. Laura Linney is good in her role, although she doesn't have much to do. At times her role is quite silly, but all in all, its decent. Will Patton is very, very good here, giving a performance of a man who is frightened he has lost his mind, and unable to control or understand the events happening around him.
All in all, this film is chillingly good. You really need to see this film, as it brings up some interesting questions about the supernatural. Like I said, its success comes in leaving so much for your mind to consider. Its also quite scary, which is great considering most horror films aren't scary. When I saw this film in the theatres, I jumped a number of times, and let go a few shakey,"Oh my god!"s
