Review:

Tim: I heard good things about this movie, and it comes from impressive director Danny Boyle, so I expected a fairly decent film. Sadly, this is not one of Boyle's better efforts. Yes, the film does have its moments, but overall, it is a letdown.

Boyle tries to give us a heartwarming family tale that children will love. And, perhaps children will enjoy it (although I tend to think American ones will be more confused about it than anything). I think Boyle had the right idea, but the film stumbles out of the gate. The story is somewhat interesting, but there are too many distractions from the main plot. For example, one of the boys talks to saints. Saints, as in the dead Christian people. This is fairly odd, and at times, almost a little disturbing.

The best part of the film explores the good and the bad of humanity, which is deep for a children's film. I appreciate the effort Boyle makes, but the movie is flawed, and I didn't find it nearly enjoyable enough.
