Review:

Tim: This historical drama unfolds slowly, balancing out intense drama and exciting action as it tells the story of Michael Collins. This is an important film, because it tells a powerful story that few would know otherwise. Too often, important people are lost to history (at least in regards to the average American). This helps tell his story.

Liam Neeson is a superb actor. This goes without saying, yet Neeson proves yet again that few can compare with him. He gives an excellent, multilayered performance as our titular hero. He is helped by a very strong cast, especially Aidan Quinn, Julia Roberts, and Brendan Gleeson. But make no mistake about it, while they add much to the film, this is really about Neeson and his bold performance.

As with so many historical dramas, this one mixes action with suspense and tragedy. I am a big fan of films of this genre, but even still, it was hard not to see that the movie occasionally loses focus. Despite meandering a bit, the movie does conclude in excellent fashion, and we are left with an entertaining movie.
