Review:
Tim: Huh? I am still shaking my head, trying to figure this movie out. If the plot wasn't so labyrinthine, I probably would have hated it more. As it currently is, I couldn't follow or understand half the movie. I'll say, though, that every piece of the movie I DID understand, I hated. This is just a complete mess of a movie from start to finish. The plot isn't just hard to follow, it gives almost no incentive for wanting to follow it. I have loved some of Michael Mann's similar movies, like Heat and Collateral, but this movie just sucks.
Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell are awful as Tubbs and Crockett. They mumble nearly all of their lines, which are impossible to follow anyway. For 80% of the movie, I just couldn't understand what the heck they were talking about. They seemed to focus more energy on trying to look cool, rather than trying to give a worthwhile performance. The cast as a whole leaves a great, great deal to be desired.
The action in this film isn't very good, either. Whereas Heat and Collateral have some very memorable scenes, this movie is completely forgettable. The gunfights aren't impressive, there's almost no suspense, and no need to care about anything you are seeing. This film bored me greatly. I remember hearing about a number of problems and troubles that occurred during filming, and that translates on screen. There was some gigantic disconnect in the creation of the movie, and the film is much worse because of it.
Miami Vice is a complete train-wreck. I'm a huge fan of action crime movies, and this is one of the worst I have ever seen. My words can't accurately paint the picture of how terrible this movie is- it is just awful
