Review:

Tim: This is a rousing and incredible action adventure film. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World has been called the best movie of its kind ever made. I'm not sure exactly which genre or subgenre that is referring to, but I agree that you will not find a better high seas action adventure film than this one right here.

Russell Crowe is an outstanding adventure hero. He proved he could play this type of role in Gladiator, and while his performance as Captain Aubrey is not quite up to par with his Maximus performance, he is simply amazing as the captain. He is joined once again by his A Beautiful Mind costar, Paul Bettany. The more I see of this actor, the more I like him. He was terrific in the aforementioned film and once again sparkles on the screen here. He is a perfect match to Crowe and the two compliment each other perfectly.

Master and Commander is an outstanding high seas adventure film. You have epic sea battles, waging war against the elements, danger, action, and heroism. Add in the historical elements of the film and you find yourself will a pretty complete motion picture. The historical aspect of the film is great to watch. Peter Weir directs his film paying painstaking detail to the historical and nautical aspects of the film. In addition to being so entertaining, one can learn a great deal from simply watching this movie. Weir adds in so many nautical terms and facts that it's almost impossible for them all to just brush off you without any of them sticking.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is a terrific movie and I sincerely hope Hollywood makes more films like this one. If you haven't seen this movie, you are missing out on an incredible adventure.
