Summary: After a Cheerleading squad witnesses a mob murder, a Texas Ranger (Tommy Lee Jones) is assigned to protect them and moves in with them at their off campus college house. His no-nonsense attitude conflicts with their youthful excitement and hilarity ensues as he tries to protect them.

Review:

Tim: I can see the brilliance of this film on paper- Tommy Lee Jones playing his no-nonsense law enforcement official while a group of cheerleaders provide hilarity all around him. This concept is nothing short of brilliant. Unfortunately, in implementing it, the concept also proves to be horribly cheesy. A group of cheerleaders witnesses a murder and a Texas Ranger goes to live with them? Please cut the crap. It is a great idea on paper, terrible logistically, however. All this being said, the movie has too great an original idea not to inspire a few laughs.

Jones is terrific. He plays his smart, hardcore role similar to performances in films like The Fugitive, The Hunted, and others. The cheerleaders are all over-the-top, but the contrast between them and Jones offers ample comedy potential.

The film suffers because the concept is pretty riduculous when implemented and we can't shake the feeling that this movie will suck no matter what. It is, after all, a silly and somewhat pointless comedy about cheerleaders. It is completely mindless entertainment, but entertainment nonetheless.

I'm embarrassed to admit I laughed a few times and almost enjoyed myself quite a few times. However, there are enough flaws in the film to pull you back to reality and help you realize that although this is better than it should be, it's still not very good.
