Review:

Tim: I cannot stress enough how important it was that this film was made. Malcolm X is an extremely important figure in American history and too few Americans know little or nothing about the man. His life was fascinating- from his disreputable beginnings to his conversion in jail, to his assassination by his old friends. The man lived in and influenced one of the most tumultuous times in this country's history and his life serves an important purpose.

Spike Lee directs a very good movie. While some of the shortcomings from his other movies can still be seen at times here, he cuts way back on his weaknesses. The beginning of the film is the weakest, but builds to be stronger and stronger as it goes on.

Denzel Washington is superb as the titular icon. He's one of the greatest actors in Hollywood, and he transforms himself into Malcolm X. It is hard to tell them apart (watch the pictures at the end). The supporting cast is decent, but Washington alone lifts this movie into the realm of greatness.

Do yourself a service and see this movie. While I don't agree with everything Malcolm X stood for, I am still amazed at his story- and all this is coming from a while devil, so trust me.
