Review:

Tim: Adapting the amazing Seven Samurai into a Western was a brilliant idea. The concept is flawless, and the plot works perfectly with cowboys and bandits. This is an entertaining, excellent, film.

A huge part of the film's success comes from the cast. Without it, the film would be a failure. Luckily, we genuinely like our seven heroes. Yul Brynner is very good as the ringleader. He works so well with Steve McQueen, who is excellent on screen. Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, and Brad Dexter all add in good supporting performances. Eli Wallach is very good as the bad guy here.

The film is a very good Western. It is exciting, with some excellent shoot outs. There is also a bit of comedy, although the comedic aspect was better in Seven Samurai. The music here is fantastic. It was nominated for an Academy Award. This film is wildly entertaining. I found myself truly enjoying myself. I was laughing, engaged, and not bored in the least.

So much of this film's success comes from the source material. There is something so noble and heroic about seven standing against overwhelming odds, risking their lives selflessly, to protect the innocent. When you take a powerful story like this, and make it funny and exciting, you are left with a very excellent movie that ranks as one of the best Westerns of all time. I really like this well made, solid movie. It's quite entertaining and has such a strong cast. Enjoy it.
