Review:
Tim: If there was ever a film that made me never, ever want to get married, and never, ever have children, this one is it. What a depressing, some-what poorly made film this was. I am really at a loss as to why such a miserable, enjoyment-free movie was made in the first place. I think the point of the film was to accurately show the obstacles newlyweds face in their first few years. What a depressing goal- who wants to see that?
The cast is not very good. Even the ever-reliable James Stewart could not manage to be enjoyable here. This is perhaps the most telling sign of the film's failure. Carole Lombard, better known for her comedies, is ineffective here as she plays it straight. She has no chemistry with Stewart. The rest of the cast is an absolute waste and work to make the movie worse, rather than better.
There were some interesting scenes. Some are very good- like the New Year's party scene. Some are terrible. The whole medicine in the blizzard subplot is a gigantic distraction and detracts from the overall story. I am still shocked and confused as to where this came from and why it is included in the movie.
Made for Each Other does have a few good moments, but overall, the film is far too flawed to be entertaining in the least. This is by no means a good movie. There is very little here to be happy about.
