Review:

Tim: Before I say anything else, I need to clarify that this film is not up to par with Sandler's better films, like Happy Gilmore or The Wedding Singer and my rating will reflect that. All that being said, this movie is very, very funny. One of the reasons I laughed so hard while watching this movie is simply the borrowing of jokes from others films and many hilarious cameos. As an example of borrowing jokes, "Chubs" from Happy Gilmore makes an appearance in Heaven. Anyone familiar with Sandler's famous golf comedy will definitely crack up during this scene. There is enough outside jokes to keep any Sandler-fan interested. Rob Schneider also makes his, "You can do it, Little Nicky" line, which is always funny no matter how many movies you see it in.

Perhaps even funnier than the paying tribute to past films is the wide range of cameos that benefit this film. My favorite would have to be Reese Witherspoon as a angel, Nicky's mother. She plays her character very Legally-Blonde-ish, which is all the more funny. Plus, she looks amazing in the angel outfit. Also hilarious is the brief cameo of Dan Marino (the greatest quarterback to ever throw a football) in hell. He is trying to bargain with the devil to let him win a Super Bowl in exchange for his soul (and Satan says no, he's too nice of a guy). Also worth seeing is the dog, voiced by Robert Smigel (who is hilarious outside of the film as Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog).

Despite the hilarious jokes (like pineapples being shoved up Adolf Hitler's ass in hell) and the amazing cameos, this film ultimately suffers from a flimsy plot. I do really like this film, although it is hard not to see this film isn't as good as Sandler is capable of being. His performance is good, but he doesn't get many laughs with his half-whispering or whatever the heck it was, voice. He is actually the least funny part of the movie, which definitely hurts it.

All in all, even despite the many elements which make the film appear to be cheesy, it manages to be extremely funny as well. Its just too bad its not as good as Sandler's other films.
