Review:

Tim: I want to issue a thank you to crappy movies like this that make me want to never be in another relationship. This is a depressing, ugly film that is too clever for its own good, and tries to doll itself up at the end to appear better than it is. I don't believe there is any honesty in this film (realism, maybe, but honesty, no). It says something about a movie that has a lot of potential and amounts to squat.

To be fair to Brittany Murphy, she gives her absolute all in the film. Watch her performance, because you can see she really threw herself into the role, wanted the movie to succeed, and almost willed it into being. I really like Ron Livingston and I was really glad he was in the film. Holly Hunter is decent, although she has always rubbed me in the wrong way (except in Always). I didn't like her much in the film.

This movie has almost no good or likeable characters (not when you dig deep down into them) and will leave you feeling like a lover scorned- you will be filled with bitter disappointment at what could have been and looking back, you will not remember the good parts, but only the rotten and painful ones. I am all for romantic comedy/dramas trying to pack a punch, but this one whiffs and comes up clutching only air. Pass this film up, unless you're interested in seeing a heartfelt performance by Murphy.
