Summary: On a faraway planet, a mad scientist creates a monster of destruction. Upon being sentenced to captivity, the monster (named Stitch) escapes to earth and is adopted by Lilo, a Hawaiian girl who believes Stitch is a dog. The two form a fragile bond that threatens to ruin Lilo's older sister, Nani (Tia Carrere) with a child welfare agent (Ving Rhames).

Review:

Tim: This is a very overrated children's movie that cannot compare to the strongest Disney classics, or even to some of the better animated films in recent years. It is weak and th story is a bit far-fetched.

My biggest complaint with the film is the story. I understand the fish-out-of-water and the parallels to the Ugly Duckling sotry, but the movie is too ridiculous to convey the weeping family sentiment that is shoved down our throats. Stitch's origins as a destructive horrible monster and the inter-galactic council condeming him is just about as absurd as concept for a children's movie as you can get.

Humor is nonexistant. I vaguely remember laughing once... I think I did, anyway. The film is often boring and there is a total lack of excitement. We just aren't invested emotionally in a silly plot or implausible characters.

The Hawaiian setting is interesting and the Elvis songs add a different feel to the movie. However, this adds little positive to a bad movie.

Going from aliens in outer space to Hawaii, to a sister trying to raise her little sister like she was her mother while avoiding child protection services sounds like a horrible time to me. I could go on, but I've wasted enough time on the movie. Kids will obviously love this movie, but then again, kids are stupid.

For a time, Disney could do no wrong. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. With poor films like Pocahontas and this film, their magic is a little bit rusty and faded.
