Review:

Tim: The Legend of Hercules is easily a contender for the worst film of 2014. It's a completely worthless, forgettable movie. There's nothing here that will stick with you longer than a few seconds. I started to forget this movie before it even ended. It's an atrocious wreck of a film. It was a complete and utter waste of time and I still can't get over how angry I am that I was subjected to this crap.

This movie is thoroughly generic. There is nothing in this film that hasn't been done a hundred times before by vastly better movies. I was bored from the opening scene to the final scene. Everything that happens on screen was redundant. It felt like director Renny Harlin and the "writers" just decided to take things that had been done numerous times before and put them in this movie, trying to find the most bland, forgettable way to do it. There isn't a single positive thing about 99% of this movie.

I'm not very familiar with Kellen Lutz, but apparently he was in the Twilight movies. I didn't remember him from those films and I've already (thankfully) forgotten 99% of his performance here. Lutz is beyond terrible. He gives one of the most boring, wooden performances I have ever seen. I can't understand why so many people in Hollywood forget that acting is hard and you need to cast actual actors in your films. Lutz is physically impressive, but he just seems like a stupid person and his lack of intelligence shows up in his awful performance. He conveys nothing with his face- it's like he is sleepwalking through this movie. If he actually tried (which I'm slightly doubting), then he is pathetic. I hated his performance more than anyone in a long time. The rest of the cast is atrocious as well, a collection of has-beens and never-weres that insult the intelligence of paying audiences everywhere.

I'm quite frankly shocked that this movie made $18 million at the box office. That's a tiny amount compared to the $70 million budget, but I can't imagine that many people went to see this in theaters. It looked totally cheap and rushed. The only thing I can think of is that maybe many people thought this was the Hercules moving starring Dwayne Johnson that would come out later in the year? Whatever happened, those poor souls were swindled out of their hard-earned money. I watched this film on Netflix and I'm still lamenting the fact that I wasted one of my DVDs on this terrible film.

When it comes down to it, there's almost no redeeming qualities about The Legend of Hercules. It's easily one of the worst movies of 2014 and one of the worst movies in the last decade. The CGI is cheap and terrible, the cast is abysmal, and the direction was beyond lackluster. This is a movie that you should avoid at all costs.
