Summary: After Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon), popular sorority president and fashion major is dumped by her boyfriend for a more "serious" girl, she decides to take the LSAT and attend Harvard Law School to win him back. She manages to get accepted, but soon discovers winning her ex back (and law school) may be more difficult than she first imagined.

Review:

Tim: This is definitely a girl movie. There is no doubting or debating it. Everything in this film screams "girly movie." All that aside, however, its actually not bad, and will appeal to a larger audience than one might expect. The film itself actually has a great message. It is structured to entertain- but also to show what a woman can do when she puts her mind to something. It many ways, its absolutely ridiculous (like getting into Harvard Law), but for the sake of the good message, its worth it. The character of Elle Woods may be absurd at times (talking and obsessing over that stupid dog), but she's an amazingly powerful and strong person as well. She's a good role model for many young women.

Besides the feel good message to the movie, its also quite entertaining. It will make you laugh despite yourself, and even though you might try, you'll get caught up in rooting for Elle. Legally Blonde is a fun movie packing more than you might expect.

Obviously, the reason for this film's success is the outstanding performance by Reese Witherspoon. She locked herself in as a powerful figure in Hollywood with this role. She tough, strong, naive, intelligent, and goofy all at the same time. She makes a blonde bimbo both airheaded and brilliant. Her performance makes this movie. She also has some great help from the supporting cast. Luke Wilson turns in another low key but excellent performance. Its nearly impossible not to like this guy in a movie. He's great. Selma Blair is wonderfully wicked throughout the film. She is a perfect contrast to Witherspoon's bubbly personality. Also, Ali Larter has a small but decent role as well.

This film was a huge success, and is only the beginning of bigger things for its star. Legally Blonde is a fun, entertaining film, and best of all- it has a good message. Its rare to find a film like this today.
