Review:

Tim: This is another British gangster flick in the vein of Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. However, this time, the producer of both those films, Matthew Vaughn, is in the director's chair for this one. Taking over the reigns from Guy Ritchie isn't easy, but Vaughn does a good job. The film is quick-paced, juggling a complicated script with characters with questionable loyalties.

Daniel Craig does a good job as the film's lead, a character whose name we never learn. He is surprisingly effective as a leading man. The supporting cast is decent. I enjoyed seeing Colm Meaney in his role. I did not like Sienna Miller, however. I am not a fan of her, and she did nothing to change my mind in this film.

Layer Cake has a few flaws that Snatch does not have. It occasionally gets bogged down in the plot and can be a bit boring. It is difficult to keep track of everything going on. The film starts to falter in the third act, but the end is surprisingly good. It redeems some of the earlier issues. Still, the movie is stylish, cool, and for the most part, enjoyable.
