Review:
Tim: When they announced that the popular Tomb Raider video game was coming to the big screen, I was very excited. When they cast Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, I was ecstatic. Jolie is perfect for the role and I doubt anyone could have been more fitting. Unfortunately, she never really becomes the character.
This is actually a pretty good action/adventure movie. Some of the action scenes are pretty incredible. Unfortunately, there are also a great deal of ridiculous sequences as well.
The biggest problem with the movie is apparent in the title. Instead of simply calling it "Tomb Raider" (like they should have), they put Lara Croft first. This is a movie about her, not so much about her adventures. The plot doesn't matter as much as she does. Focusing the film of Croft (and most especially Jolie playing Croft), the film loses its credibiity. There is more to a movie than a cool main character. This is a film that suffers because it puts the coolness of a character above anything that actually happens to her.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is very, very forgettable. Much of the plot is tired and recycled from dozens of other action/adventure movies. This film should and could have been much better. It is decently entertaining, but slightly too silly for its own good.
