Summary: After several animals and people turn up dead in Maine, locals begin to suspect something in the water is killing them. Upon further investigation by a Fish and Game warden (Bill Pullman), the local sheriff (Brendan Gleeson), and a visiting paleontologist, it appears that the quiet lake is home to a massive crocodile. This news brings in an eccentric croc-lover (Oliver Platt) who wants to capture the animal alive- not kill it like the majority of those involved do.

Review:

Tim: I love this movie. I know all the flaws and weaknesses, but I don't care. It has the perfect blend of action, horror, and comedy, and is one entertaining ride.

The cast is terrific. Bill Pullman is bland but excellent in his role. Bridget Fonda is an important key player, holding the entire cast together. She is the most important character, and Fonda pulls this job off flawlessly. Oliver Platt is hilarious and gets the best lines in the film. However, the show is stolen by Brendan Gleeson. He is perfect for his role and just makes it his own. No matter what he does, I will always like him for this performance. Betty White adds a very funny and atypical performance. I like when films play people against character, and this is definitely the case here.

The comedy in the film is top notch. The writing is superb and crisp and it sizzles. Lake Placid is so enjoyable because it is a fun movie. Too often, movies aren't fun enough- you will definitely enjoy yourself watching this movie.

The crocodile in the film is actually pretty realistic and scary. It makes for a formitable opponent for our heroes. Take a chance with this movie. It is hilarious, scary, and action packed. If you hate this movie like most people, I'd say: lighten up, sit back, and laugh- this movie is better than you think.
