However, that soon proves more difficult than it sounds.
Review:
Tim: This is a wholly disappointing film. The only- and I truly mean only good thing about this movie is the performance of Tom Hanks. His intellectual yet criminal southern gentleman G.H. Dorr is absolutely hilarious. From his horribly annoying laugh to his love of Edgar Allen Poe, he is a terrific character. Sadly, Hanks is caught in an awful, awful movie.
The supporting cast is sadly pathetic. Marlon Wayans has never been more annoying and I've lost any enthusiasm I might have had for him after seeing his retched performance. J.K. Simmons is really not interesting or enjoyable at all. Irma P. Hall is the only decent actor in the supporting cast. She is actually the perfect crotchety old lady. The rest of the cast isn't even worth mentioning.
Despite Hanks, the film is really not funny at all. I clearly see where the Coen brothers meant the humor to be, but the jokes either fall flat or are in too poor taste to be funny at all.
The best part of the movie- if I can call it that- is the end, starting with the plot to kill the old lady. This is the most inspired part of the movie and the most watchable. However, it is too little too late and The Ladykillers is a pretty worthless movie all around.
