Review:
Tim: Clint Eastwood knows how to do three things well (especially early in his career)- make Westerns, cop movies, and war movies. This is a very good war movie. Eastwood made this film when he was the #2 box office star, so you know you are going to get your classic Eastwood performance. He actually has quite a bit of help from the supporting cast, most notably, Donald Sutherland as the very enjoyable hippie/soldier Oddball and Don Rickles adding some lighthearted comedic relief as Crapgame.
This film, being a comedy, has a lot more humor than the majority of Eastwood's films. The idea to surround Eastwood with a ragtag bunch of hilarious misfits is simply a superb idea. It makes for an entertaining film. Kelly's Heroes has a good movie of action warfare and camraderie among the soldiers.
Besides being a good comedy, this is also a good war movie. It is interesting to watch men put their lives on the line and perform heroic acts for a great deal of gold, although they wouldn't do that otherwise.
This is not Eastwood's best film by any means, but the movie is still a good war flick. It has great action, comedy, and of course, a great theme song in "Burning Bridges." This film is definitely worth checking out.
