Summary: A Harvard law professor (Sean Connery) reluctantly takes up an investigation into a black man (Blair Underwood) about to be executed for the murder of a little girl. He strongly denies the crime, citing a conspiracy by the local sheriff (Laurence Fishburne). What seems like a obvious case soon spirals out of control and risks the lives of all involved.

Review:

Tim: This is a film that teeters between being very good and being very bad and ultimately lands somewhere in the middle. It is not nearly as good as it should be (since it rips off a multitude of great movies) but not quite as bad as some would fear it could be.

Sean Connery gives a good performance and is at least somewhat believable in the role. He never quite feels right, however. Laurence Fishburne does a good job as well. For a number of reasons that become apparent as you watch the film, he has the most difficult role and pulls it off excellently. Ed Harris gives his usual sold performance. Watch for Scarlett Johansson as Connery's daughter. Blair Underwood nearly steals the show in an impressive turn. Just Cause is saved by its stellar cast.

The story is told very well and is more powerful than you first realize. Obviously with these types of thrillers, there are a number of twists and turns that keep you on your toes. This is what keeps you interested and a bit intrigued.

Just Cause has a powerful cast with an interesting story and a few twists that make this an average to above average thriller.
