Summary: A visionary man creates an amusement park filled with living dinosaurs by cultivating dinosaur DNA from fossilized amber. He invites two dinosaur experts (Sam Neill, Laura Dern) and a quirky scientist (Jeff Goldblum) to join his two grandchildren and a lawyer for a trial ride through Jurassic Park. The trip is marred however, by a traitor employee (Wayne Knight) who causes the park to temporarily lose all power. This mishap frees many of the dinosaur inhabitants of the park, and instead of a leisure trip, the group is forced into a battle of survival against the most dangerous creatures on the face of the earth.

Review:

Tim: Steven Spielberg creates an unbelievable film in Jurassic Park. The film begins beautifully with such awe- vast landscapes, majestic music, and amazing creatures. It reminds us of the possibilities that existed all around us when we were kids. The first part of the film is a wonder ride of "what if?"

However, soon the awe turns to terror. Spielberg's success comes from his ability to give us both emotional extremes and makes the transition between them flawlessly. For all the joy that the awe inspires, there is an equal amount of sheer terror when the more ferocious dinosaurs escape.

The cast has at times been criticized for not containing big stars, but the actors are all at the top of their game. Sam Neill has never been better. His performance is superb and I will always like him as an actor because of this role. Jeff Goldblum is hilarious in this movie, adding a needed dose of intelligent humor to the mix. In a small role, Samuel L. Jackson is quite good as well. The rest of the cast all perform very well.

It is important to keep in mind, however, that the real stars are the dinosaurs. Spielberg came out with this film in 1993- before special effects really exceeded everything done before. However, his creatures are so realistic and lifelike that they hold up today. His special effects were monumental at the time of the film's release.

Jurassic Park is a terrific film and truly a work of genius. It is about as enjoyable a viewing experience as you're going to find. Watch this movie, over and over again.
