Review:

Tim: What a stupid, stupid movie. I'd love to completely tear this movie apart, except that I laughed far too hard and enjoyed myself way too much to do that in good conscience. I want to state up front that this is a flawed, silly movie that is just funny regardless. Knowing all this, there are still some redeeming qualities.

David Spade is actually really funny as our titular hero. I love that an inbred redneck is this film's hero. Spade (who can often be quite unfunny) manages to inspire quite a few laughs. This is one of his best and most memorable characters. Dennis Miller provides a small but crucial role that utilizes all of his strengths to maximize his ability on screen. He is excellent. Brittany Daniel has a few terrible acting moments, but her beauty and charm benefit any movie, and it's great seeing her here. Christopher Walken is really funny and has one of the film's best lines- "You're talking to me all wrong." This speech is great. The cast is one of the film's strongest points.

Joe Dirt is great because you have the most unlikely hero recounting his life story, which is original, exciting, and very, very funny. This set up (of Spade telling his story to Miller) is essential to the movie. It holds everything together and allows us to forgive the ridiculous qualities that run rampant throughout the movie. Without framing the story like they do, the movie would descend into utter madness.

I cannot stress enough how dumb this movie is. As occasionally is the case though, this film's juvenile humor wins us over and we find ourselves laughing, even when we shouldn't.
