Summary: Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg) is a down-on-his-luck substitute teacher. This all changes when he tries out for the Philadelphia Eagles- and despite all odds, actually makes the team!

Review:

Tim: This is a small, little story about an average guy given the opportunity of a lifetime. As far as based-on-a-true-stories go, this one is a bit anticlimactic. Don't expect a Super Bowl trip for the Eagles. The "big finish" to the film is actually pretty small. While there is some drama, by the film's end, I felt more disappointment than any other emotion. It is a somewhat interesting story, but you have to feel like Disney is scraping the bottom of the barrel for its inspirational sports movies.

I don't really like Mark Wahlberg all that much, but he gives a good performance. I love the film's insistance on showing that Vince Papale was a really, really good guy. He was always more concerned with other people than with himself, and this comes across beautifully on screen. I also loved seeing Greg Kinnear as Dick Vermeil. This was an excellent casting decision.

Despite a few strengths, this is mostly a disappointing movie. It is somewhat enjoyable, but not up to par with some of Disney's better inspirational sports movies. Plus, the title has absolutely nothing to do with the story (at least that I can tell), which just doesn't make any sense to me.
