Review:

Tim: Critics roasted this movie, jumping all over the claim that the entire film is simply an excuse to see Paul Walker and Jessica Alba in bathing suits, and not much else, in general. This is quite an over-simplified claim, and neglects the fact that this is a decent action-adventure treasure hunt film. I will admit that there are a bit too many gratuitous shots of Walker and Alba wearing very little, and these are obvious and quite silly. The underwater scenes are especially absurd, and I won't even comment on the slow motion shots.

The plot is also a bit ridiculous. It starts off decently enough, but when you add in a sunken plane, cocaine, drug dealers, and even an invaluable sunken ship, you start to wonder what exactly went wrong with the script, and how did it spiral awkwardly out of control?

Besides these obvious flaws, there are some positives. Walker and Alba were at least enjoyable to watch, even if they don't blow you away with their acting ability. Scott Caan and Ashley Scott were less interesting and enjoyable, but they pull their parts off and aren't necessarily terrible.

Despite the unrealistic and absurd plot, you find yourself at least interested in the progression of the story. More than likely, you will want to stick around to see how it all turns out, and there's enough action to keep you awake. Some of the underwater photography is fairly impressive, and the background and setting of the film is beautiful.

Into the Blue is an average movie that tries to be flashy, but ultimately sinks under the weight of its ridiculousness.
