Summary: An aging Secret Service agent (Clint Eastwood) tries to stop a deadly assassin (John Malkovich) who is determined to assassinate the U.S. President.

Review:

Tim: This is a political thriller simply exploding with suspense. The story of an aging secret service agent trying to stop an intelligent madman from murdering the President is told exceptionally well. I'm a huge fan of political thrillers and this ranks as one of the best.

Clint Eastwood is magnificent. He is so likeable and is absolutely perfect for the part. I applaud him for embracing his old age- the jokes on this subject give the film an endearing quality.

John Malkovich is ideal as a deadly assassin. He is a perfect match to Eastwood and the cat-and-mouse game they play is incredible to watch. I love seeing two terrific actors going face-to-face, and the showdown here is great to watch.

The rest of the supporting cast is decent. Dylan McDermott is very likeable. Rene Russo is surprisingly bland in the role.

It is fascinating to watch the Secret Service trying desperately to track down a killer. This is done in lavish detail, always in mind of a ticking time bomb that wille eventually go off (metaphorically, of course). These types of movies are not made nearly enough- intelligent thrillers that truly entertain. Eastwood and Malkovich are explosive together. This film is intense and you'll love every moment of it.
