Summary: Three women at various points in history are all connected through Virginia Woolf's novel, Mrs. Dalloway- Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman) as she writes it, a housewife (Julianne Moore) in the late 1940s reading it, and in 1999, an editor (Meryl Streep), whose life resembles that of the title character.
Review:
Tim: Can somebody please give Ed Harris an Oscar? I mean, what does this guy need to do? He is outstanding here as a poet dying of AIDS. I'd love to talk more about him, but there's lots more I need to cover.
Nicole Kidman is fantastic as well. I don't want to spend time talking about her prosthetic nose, because everyone else has. Her nose, coupled with a very different performance by her had me continually questioning whether I was really watching Kidman or not. The nose is a little distracting, but not too much.
Meryl Strep is decent in that everything-she-does-is-always-good way she has. Julianne Moore seems to plays the 50s housewife in every other film and quite frankly, I'm getting sick of it. The rest of the cast has the sole job of making these three women look good (with the exception of Harris, who's job is to show what an amazing actor he is). No one else particularly stands out.
The film is incredibly interesting in that it shows the lives of three women are impacted by the book written by one of them. The film isn't outstanding, but it contains some very fine acting and is a worthwhile film to see, especially to prolong your brain from rotting caused by the twenty terrible movies you watched before this.
