Review:

Tim: Hotel Rwanda is a powerful, moving story that deserves to be told. It really puts a human face on the horrible human rights violations and genocide in Rwanda that too many people don't know or care about. Joaquin Phoenix's character says it best when he states that people watching footage of the violence and death will say "that's horrible," and continue eating their dinners. That is exactly what the Western world did as these travesties were occurring. The West, and too many Americans, don't care about Africa.

Don Cheadle gives an outstanding performance. He's always been a good actor, but he really shows off his talent here. He is raw, moving, and memorable. Cheadles needs to take more dramatic roles, because he is great in them.

The supporting cast is pretty good, with Sophie Okonedo, Nick Nolte, Joaquin Phoenix, and even Jean Reno. However, this film is really all about Cheadle.

Hotel Rwanda is often difficult to watch because of the crimes committed against a minority group. This movie is important to watch because so few Americans really know the atrocities committed in Rwanda. This film tells of those inhuman acts, but also shows the human spirit and how one man can make a difference in the world if he only has the courage to do so. Cheadle's character saved over a thousand people by his brace and heroic acts. We are lucky enough to see his achievement on screen.
