Summary: Two women (Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet) decide to house-swap for the holidays to escape their depressing lives. The switch brings them new thoughts, new love, and new cheer during the holidays.

Review:

Tim: This is really a movie geared toward women. I don't think that is unfair to say that. The movie is really about Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, and the subject matter is definitely female-oriented. That being said, this isn't wholly silly, and there's actually a good deal to like.

I was very impressed with the cast. Kate Winslet gives a good performance as always. I don't like Cameron Diaz at all, and although some of her acting is terrible, she's generally more likeable than usual. Jude Law is at his charismatic best, and Jack Black manages to show restraint in a somewhat unlikely romantic role. Also watch for performances by Eli Wallach, Edward Burns (I wish he had a bigger role), and Rufus Sewell at his sleazy best.

The story itself is pretty typical of romantic dramedies. There's not a whole lot new, although there will be a few surprises. If you can get back the occasional cheesy scene and the very long run time (138 minutes is at least 20 minutes too long), you'll find some Christmas cheer in this holiday film.
