Summary: Emily (Dakota Fanning) is traumatized after her mother commits suicide. Her father (Robert DeNiro) decides to move her out into the country to help the healing process. Once there, however, she makes a new friend- Charlie, whom her father believes to be imaginary. When disturbing things start happening around their house, Emily blames Charlie and her father, while at first suspecting her, begins to believe that maybe Charlie isn't completely imaginary after all.

Review:

Tim: This is a creepy, intelligent horror/thriller. Nothing is completely original or new, but the story is told very well and even if it is occasionally predictable, there should be enough to surprise most viewers.

Dakota Fanning is outstanding. She keeps plowing ahead, making a nice career for herself. If she makes the transition to adulthood with no major problems, she could be one of the all time greats by the time she's done. She is creepy and very fun to watch here.

Robert DeNiro is very good as well. He makes a good pair to Fanning. I really like him in this role as he further proves he is good in just about anything. Adding in Elisabeth Shue, Famke Janssen, and Amy Irving, this film has one of the best female supporting casts, especially for this type of film.

The movie does a good job keeping us in a state of suspense. Like all good thrillers, this one uses some sleight of hand to throw us off. It will definitely keep you on your toes.

Ultimately, this is just a small horror thriller. There isn't enough to differentiate it from many very similar movies. However, a good cast bolstered by a great performance by Fanning elevates this film a bit. It is definitely worth a look, especially if you are a fan of the genre.
