Summary: Frank T. Hopkins (Viggo Mortensen) and his horse, Hidalgo, are legends in the long distance race. Their biggest challenge comes when they are invited to take part in The Ocean of Fire, a 3000 mile race across the Arabian Desert. Hopkins and Hidalgo enter the race, but more than just the victory is at stake- their very lives are.
Review:
Tim: I am realy glad that Viggo Mortensen is riding his The Lord of the Rings success by getting some decent roles. This is a very good Action/Adventure film, depsite what critics say (none of whom know good popcorn movie when they see it).
The film is intense and exciting as Frank T. Hopkins and Hidalgo set out against nearly insurmountable odds to prove all their doubters wrong.
In addition to the action and adventure, Hidalgo is a very touching story about a man and his horse. The two share a common bond and understanding- they are partners, friends, and brothers. This bond is interesting to watch as it is put ot the test and survives.
The movie is regrettably a bit too long. It should have been between 20-25 minutes shorter. There are a few parts that drag on and a few slow and boring ones.
It is interesting to watch both a race and an endurance test through 3000 miles of the Arabian desert. You need not only luck, but willpower to survive. This movie is bery much about will and making your own destiny. Those are valuable lessons to learn. This is an exciting, interesting adventure story. More movies like this need to be made, despite what you might hear from pompous critics.
