Review:

Tim: A non-horror but still supernatural story written by Stephen King? A movie starring Anthony Hopkins? That's all I need to know, and I will be there. If I hear this is also a coming of age story, well, then I can't wait to see this, because I have faith in men like Hopkins and King. Luckily, after watching this film, I was not disappointed in the least. It is everything I expected it would be.

King has such an amazing way of capturing those fragile years when we begin making the transition from childhood to adulthood. He did it with Stand by Me (The Body) and he does it again here. The story fo the friendship between three children is touching and brings us back to that precarious time in our own lives. However, even more powerful and moving is the friendship between an old man and a boy. This friendship drives the entire film in a touching, beautiful way.

The actors all give impressive performances. I won't go into any of the child actors, but they were all quite good. Hopkins continually impresses me in every film he's in. Here, he gives a quiet, touching performance that no one else could play quite as well. I also was very happy to see the always-good David Morse in a small role.

Hearts in Atlantis is yet another beautiful, poignant Stephen King drama. The man consistently writes amazing stories and oftentimes, they are adapted into very good films. This is definitely one of those times.
