Review:

Tim: It is hard to me to express how much I hate Halloween: Resurrection. The Halloween franchise has always been one I've looked upon kindly. It was of a higher quality than than franchises like A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th. Besides the awful Halloween III, with no Michael Myers, the franchise has remained mostly decent. That all ends here. The eighth film in the franchise is a complete and utter failure. It is a terrible, terrible movie.

This movie comes four years after the decent Halloween: H2O, which suggested the franchise might be turning around. In the first ten minutes of this film, it completely ruins the impressive ending of the previous film. While it gets points for being clever, the beginning of this film makes the previous film worse, and then gives us a horribly unsatisfying rematch between Michael and Laurie. After the first 15 minutes, this movie dug itself a hole it would have major difficulties climbing out of. And, the movie doesn't even try- it just keeps digging.

I like the basic idea of a group of teenagers taking part in a reality horror show set in Michael Myers' house. This is a different approach for this franchise, which it badly needs. I thought it was an interesting attempt to change things up, while explaining why Myers had a group of teens at his disposal to murder. It all made sense. Unfortunately, the script creates pathetic, stupid characters whose sole purpose is to die. Every character was one-dimensional and boring. The actors were atrocious, giving unrealistic, over-the-top performances. This is likely the worst cast in the history of the Halloween franchise, including the third film. The dialogue is embarrassingly bad and the characters all say and do incredibly moronic things. It was awful.

The script is full of plot holes and other ridiculous nonsense. None of it made much sense, and offered not a single reason to care about anything that was happening. The deaths were lame and forgettable. The movie features some pathetic scenes, the low point likely when Michael Myers gets bitched out by Busta Rhymes. Seriously, it is terrible.

The cast is really bad. Speaking of Busta Rhymes, I am shocked he was cast, and I am shocked that anyone let him speak some the absurd lines he delivers. Even worse, his acting is some of the worst I've ever seen. I honestly believe Rhymes belongs on a list of the worst performances in the history of acting. Tyra Banks is pretty bad, too, but has nothing of any importance to do, so she's a waste. The rest of the cast are bad in various ways that aren't even worth mentioning.

Halloween: Resurrection is so bad that I had a serious debate in my own mind about whether it was worse than Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which inexplicably didn't have Michael Myers. I never in my life thought that I would see the day when a Halloween movie with Michael Myers was worse than one without. In the end, I'm being slightly kind with this film to give it the same rating as the third film. I simply can't fathom giving this film a lower rating, because at the very least, we get to see Myers kill people (better than the witch crap).

I've used about all the adjectives I can to describe this utter disaster. It's truly a shame that this movie was made, and that this franchise has dropped so far in quality.
