Review:
Tim: If you've never seen this movie, I recommend going out soon and renting it. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's amazing to me that this film features a plot- the same day happening over and over- something that could easily have turned into a disaster, a silly, stupid movie- and made it into a comic gem that is entertaining, and very, very memorable. This is the type of film where I feel I could watch over and over, and never get sick of it- thats a very rare thing in the movie world.
The film gets help from director Harold Ramis, good supporting performances by Chris Elliott and Andie MacDowell, but enough cannot be said of Bill Murray. He is a comic genius, and proves it all over again with this film. I think this may be his best onscreen performance (which is impressive considering films like Rushmore and Ghostbusters). He and he alone could play this role with the effectiveness that was needed. His comic timing is amazing. I truly believe his performance here is flawless- very, very near perfect. I love everything about this movie, and Bill Murray is the number one reason why this film is so wonderful.
Stepping away from Murray for a moment- the reason I like Andie MacDowell to this day is because of this movie. She's been in a number of movies I hated, and normally, I would not think too highly of her. However, simply because of the performance she gave in this wonderful movie, I'll always have a soft spot for her. She gets a pass on all the terrible junk she's been in.
This film is so incredibly interesting. Besides being entertaining and hilarious, it brings up some very, very interesting questions. What would you do if you woke up every day, and it was the same day over and over and over again, and nothing you did mattered, because the next day, it would be as if the previous day never happened, and you start over again? That's the question Bill Murray asks himself, and the answers will make you laugh out loud. Definitely see this film- possibly Murray's best work.
