Summary: Chuck (Dane Cook) learns that every woman he sleeps with immediately afterwards finds her true love and gets married. The only problem is that if he sleeps with her- she'll find her true love and he'll lose her forever.

Review:

Tim: I actually enjoyed this movie. It made me laugh a number of times. Typically, Dane Cook movies aren't very good at all, but this film is suprisingly funny. What is even more shocking is that if it didn't stray in a few key places, this could have been a truly great comedy. As is, it is a very funny movie that works on many levels. It is good, but not great.

Dane Cook actually gives a fairly good performance. Despite a few scenes that just don't work, he actually operates on a fairly high comedic level. Jessica Alba is likewise very good here (at least compared to some of the so-called "performances" she gives). This was a role that worked well for her. Cook and Alba have a good amount of chemistry, and they are fun to watch on screen together. This is partially due to the script and the situation. Alba is a clumsy mess, and this results in painful circumstances for Cook's character. This is fairly basic comedy material, but it works very well here. The rest of the cast isn't nearly as strong as the two leads. This eventually works to hurt the movie.

All good comedies have some memorable, hilarious scenes. I love all the clumsy things Alba does, especially when Cook is there to witness them or be injured by them. Dan Fogler is a disgusting pervert, but he has some very funny lines. This film crosses the vulgarity line a number of times, but mostly, this results in very funny moments. A great deal of the film's humor is juvenile, potty humor, but it works here. Plus, penguins play a central role in this film- and penguins make just about everything better (Cook's penguin line after the credits is probably the funniest part of the whole movie).

Good Luck Chuck probably shouldn't have been this funny. However, the movie works and succeeds where many other similar ones have failed. I enjoyed this movie. Yes, there are some awful parts and some major flaws, but this is still a funny movie.
