Summary: A straight-laced high school teen (Emile Hirsch) falls in love with a beautiful girl (Elisha Cuthbert) who just moved in next door. Once they begin dating, he discovers that she used to be a porn star. This obviously complicates the relationship and could ultimately end what they had going.
Review:
Tim: What a ridiculous movie- a straight-laced high school teen falls in love with the girl next door.....who happens to be a porn star. Why this little cinematic gem hasn't been done before is beyond me. The entire film is just absurd. You can tell every movement of the film many minutes before anything actually happens. The big "surprise" at the end... yeah, I saw that coming an hour beforehand. And, I should note, I am notoriously bad at figuring twists out.
The moral of the story, I suppose, is that you need to live and have fun... either that, or the moral could be that even porn stars can have a heart of gold and start their lives over. Regardless, it is absurd.
The whole movie is really about Elisha Cuthbert being as hot as she can possibly be. She gives a charismatic performance, but there is nothing to suggest she'll have a long and prosperous Hollywood career. Then again, look what playing a hooker did for Julia Roberts. I could be wrong.
Thankfully, The Girl Next Door is mildly entertaining in an odd sense. It isn't particularly funy or interesting, but it is a good way to spend a mindless few hours... unless of course you accidentally think, and then you might hate yourself.
