Summary: A movie effects specialist (Brian Brown) reluctantly agrees to fake a killing for the Witness Protection Program. However, he is soon framed for a crime, and a police detective (Brian Dennehy) is trying to figure out the truth.
Review:
Tim: This is a movie about special effects that features special effects which look quite dated today. This is a problem. Besides this, the movie is at least fairly enjoyable. It is a small action movie, and it is clever how the protagonist uses his special effects skills to evade the bad guys and the police. Clever, and completely and utterly realistic. I want to make that note.
Brian Brown is decent, but he mostly looks like he is sleepwalking through the whole movie. I can't remember one inspired moment. Brian Dennehy is always decent, but I wish he had more screen time and more to do. His whole role is fairly anticlimactic. The rest of the cast is substandard, and in some places, downright awful. Watch closely, you'll see some terrible, terrible acting in the supporting roles.
F/X takes an interesting gimmick and runs with it as long as it can. Unfortunately, this runs out before the movie is over. The film's conclusion is such a far cry from any form of reality that it drags the movie down. I didn't dislike this movie, but it's hard to really like it, too. It does enough right to provide a certain level of enjoyment, but not enough to be considered a good movie.
