Summary: A group of teenagers reopen Camp Crystal Lake, and one by one, they begin to be murdered by an unknown killer.
Review:
Tim: This is not a bad film, but it is the weakest introduction film of any of the modern horror psychos, compared to films like Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street. This still has some memorable scenes, but the iconic Jason doesn't start out as menacing as Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger.
What you have here is your typical low budget horror film. Much of it has now become cliche- a number of good-looking teens are unsupervised in a secluded location. They display a number of immoral behaviors, and one by one, they are killed off by a psychopath, until only one reamins, ready for a final confrontation with the said murderer. While we've seen this many times since, it is always fun to watch the birth of a legend, which we get to here.
The cast is almost completely forgettable. Watch for a very small role by Kevin Bacon.
Friday the 13th is not a great movie, but it is important for what it started. I recommend seeing this film for any movie or, especially, horror movie fan.
