Review:
Tim: This is a landmark of terrible film making. Early on, I thought that I heard good reviews of this movie. Clearly, I was either dreaming or am insane. I am trying to remember the last time I pull this little enjoyment out of a film. The last time I felt this disappointed in a movie was over 5 years ago. There is almost nothing worthwhile to be found here, and I am astounded that this was released theatrically.
I know Samuel L. Jackson has long since abandoned any standards he might have had when selecting roles and projects, but some kind of light should have went off in his head. Sure, this movie looks decent on paper, but doing a little bit of digging would uncover the ugly truth of the script. Julianne Moore was just awful in her role. This actually serves as a giid test you can use on your friends- if anyone thinks that Moore's performance was amazing or Oscar worthy, then they have no concept of acting, and their opinions are simply mimiced off what they think they are supposed to believe. Moore isn't just bad, she is is out of control bad. You can almost see in her eyes how she's calculating the accolades she'll receive from her performance. Sorry, Julianne, but you're rewriting the book on over-the-top, absurd performances. I didn't need another reason to despise this movie, but I appreciate her giving me one.
Freedomland represents one of the saddest products of Hollywood these days- a terrible film from the very core that somehow fools everyone involved into thinking it is something special, so the end product appears not only ridiculous, but absurdly arrogant as well. This film is crap.
