Summary: After a kind and loving woman is murdered, her four adopted sons (Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin, Garrett Hedlund) come home to discover who killed her and why, and exact their revenge to avenge their mother's death.

Review:
Tim: Everything about this movie just screams "wanna be gangster, fake harcore." The whole premise of the movie is that these four rough, rugged gangsta brothers avenging their mother's murder on the streets of Detroit. The whole film will try really hard to convince you how bass these brothers are. Please spare me.

Sadly, we are forced to watch Mark Wahlberg posing and posturing around like some ridiculous alpha male. This is the worst part of the film by far, although there are numerous other aspects which give this a run for its money. The rest of the cast is fairly annoying as well. Andre Benjamin is (shockingly) the least terrible actor in the film (besides Chiwetel Ejiofor, but his part is too small to matter).

The best part of the film are the scenes where we see the four brothers hanging out, acting like real brothers do. Having brothers myself, this was a realistic and true look at what siblings do in their spare time (except for the shower/taking a crap/checking for STDs scene, which is just revolting and ridiculous).

The action is pretty decent, but takes a back seat to the faux drama. There are definitely much better films to watch. Part of the problem is that the movie can't be taken seriously- it feels far too over-the-top and takes itself far too seriously. Four Brothers just feels like a big joke.

I really do not understand the appeal of this film. There is too much crammed into the movie. From the scenes of violence to the ice hockey game to... why was their mother killed again? I just watched the movie and I can't remember. Anyway, this is a silly movie meant to appeal to silly people. Don't fall into its trap.
