Summary:The story of the meeting and friendship of Jamal Wallace (Robert Brown), a basketball player and gifted writer from the Bronx and William Forrester (Sean Connery), a recluse writer who wrote one great novel, then disappeared. As Forrester teaches Jamal not only about writing, but about life, the pair realize that they need each other. Forrester learns as much from Jamal as Jamal does from Forrester.

Review:

Tim: Any movie with Sean Connery has to be good, and this one is no exception. Gus Van Sant does a tremendous job with a movie that easily could have been a failure- however, the film succeeds. Robert Brown is very good in this film, he is cast perfectly. Sean Connery is superb, even though he didn't need to stretch his acting ability for this film.

While Finding Forrester can tend to be a bit long and a bit slow, the movie presents many interesting questions about life and writing. The dialogue in the film, most especially between Forrester and Wallace is superb, cleverly written, and wonderful to listen to. This movie doesn't break any new ground, but does what it does well. This is a touching film that offers an interesting look at life. While both main characters in the film grow, you almost seem to grow and mature with them. Finding Forrester is 136 minutes long, and occasionally drags its feet, but overall is an excellent movie that you need to see.
