Review:
Tim: Wow. This is a film you definitely need to see three or four times to fully appreciate every aspect of it. The film is intense, intelligent, yet has a plot twist unlike any you'll find in the movie rack at the local Blockbuster. This film takes a simple idea, and revolves around it violence, strength, male aggression, and intelligence the likes of which have rarely been seen before.

Brad Pitt is excellent in this film, and great for the role. He plays a man so incredibly together, yet capable of anything. I've never been a big fan of Pitt, but he is excellent here. He must have bulked up a great deal for this role, and it is impressive... damn impressive.

However, even more so amazing than Pitt is Edward Norton. Now this is a kid that I really, really like. He strays from the normal film roles, taking edgy and raw ones. He was excellent in Primal Fear, and despite many flaws, I still liked him in Keeping the Faith. He is absolutely tremendous in this film, as narrator, and the eyes by which the viewers watch the movie. The world is his, to bend and shape and create as he sees fit. The character is amazing, yet Norton takes it to a different level. At first glance, he might not seem the best choice for the role- he's kind of scrawny. However, what he lacks in physical build, he makes up for in heart. He is the most believable and deep character in this film, and he gives you the impression that if you watched this film five or six times, you still could never fully understand the character. Pitt and Norton are excellent together- they truly are amazing to watch.

This film is brilliantly done, and is one of those films you love to talk about with people who have seen it. If you're watching it for the first time, I'll give you the same advice someone gave me- pay attention. It will make the film much more enjoyable, and when the moment comes... you'll know.

I strongly recommend this film. It does have some graphic displays of violence, but it is rated R after all. My advice to you if you are not a huge fan of gruesomeness, is to bite down hard, and watch this film. You will be glad you did. If you're a fan of gruesome senseless violence (I count myself here), then sit back, and enjoy a feast of intelligent violence and fun.
