Review:

Tim: The Fifth Element is a surprise sci-fi special effects blast. This movie is excellent. While it may not be the most intelligent film, it is pure fun- and that counts for a lot. Bruce Willis is at his witty best in this film. He may not have the acting talent of other big names such as Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington, but in my book, he is right up there with the best of them. Willis gives a great performance, not only displaying his action abilities, but conjuring up humor with his facial expressions and his mannerism. One of my favorite parts of this film is a trivial one that has no major impact on the movie. When the military come to Willis' home and tells him of the mission, Willis asks, "What mission?", which the general replies, "Save the world"- which causes Bruce Willis to laugh- he does it so incredible and powerful that for me, that is the most memorable part of the film (if you think I'm crazy, just watch for it- it is great).

Besides the superb Bruce Willis, the supporting cast do a great deal as well. Milla Jovovich gives a strange but good performance as LeeLoo. There wasn't too much for her to do in the film, but what little there was, she did well. Chris Tucker is so funny in this movie. His character doesn't come on until the end, but every scene he is in becomes brighter and funnier. While he can tend to get a bit annoying, grin and bear it, because he really is funny. Iam Holm is actually very good as the priest in this film, and also has his comedic moments. I think the biggest disappointment in the film is the bad guy, Emmanuel Zorg, played by Gary Oldman. I thought the character was silly and didn't bring much to the film, despite his occasional humorous line. Gary Oldman acts as well as he can, but the character makes Oldman look silly and out of place.

Overall, The Fifth Element has everything- action, adventure, comedy, and romance. The film has some outstanding special effects that are a treat to look at. This movie combines action, special effects, and humor to create an extremely fun film. This is the type of movie that you can sit back and relax during- and have an incredibly fun time.
