Review:
Tim: This is a stupid, inconsequential movie that brushes past us, trying to capitalize on people's love of the Boston Red Sox, and never makes any real kind of impact. If you are BoSox fan, you might derive some enjoyment from feelings of sympathy, but in the end, the focus on the Red Sox is more of a cheap gimmick to try and hide the fact that this movie really isn't very good at all. To be fair, it seems to work for a while before ultimately collapsing upon itself.

In fact, the best part of the movie is the humorous exploration of Jimmy Fallon's character's obsession with the Boston Red Sox. This is by far more interesting than anything else that happens between Fallon and Barrymore (and I'm not just saying this is a sports-loving guy, I like romantic comedies as much as the next guy). Fallon and Barrymore do not have enough chemistry for this film to work, and all the romantic parts are boring and extremely predictable.

Fallon is terrific as an obsessed fan, and less than good as a love interest. Barrymore made me bored to tears and i wonder if anyone goes to movies to see her anymore. The cast was a superb letdown, and the two stars just didn't work well together. I blame them both equally.

This film took an interesting approach, combining sports and romance. This allows the film to appeal to a much wider demographic. Unfortunately, there is not enough positive to warrant a view from anyone, let alone across demographics. This is one baseball film that truly does strike out.
